Legal action for those created chaos in courtroom: Law minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq today warned of taking legal action against those who created chaos in the courtroom of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

“The government is strongly considering taking legal action against those who created chaos in the courtroom,” the minister told The Daily Star.

The law minister’s reaction came hours after a group of pro-BNP lawyers shouted and created chaos in the courtroom during the hearing of an appeal filed by the party chairperson Khaleda Zia in a corruption case.

The pro-BNP lawyers also made ruckus even after a six-member bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain left the courtroom.

In an impromptu reaction after the incident, Anisul Huq said the government will not allow anybody to insult or undermine any institution of the country.   

“It is our responsibility to protect the law and order situation and to stop any disorder in order to keep the people of the country safe. The government will be bound to take legal action against those who will do such acts,” he also said while speaking at a press briefing at his residential office in capitals’ Gulshan area.

The law minister strongly condemned the incident in the courtroom saying that the pro-BNP lawyers and their outsider supporters had made arrogant behavior at the apex court.

“We have seen in the past that the pro-BNP lawyers and BNP supporting outsiders tried to create chaotic situation if the court passes any order or verdict against them,” Minister Anisul said.

“It appears that they have no respect to rule of law and loyalty to the highest constitutional institutions of the country and institution of the state is safe to them,” the law minister added.
