Kitchen fire leaves 4 workers burnt in factory

Four workers in a lubricant factory suffered burns when a fire broke out at its kitchen in Zadurchar area in Savar yesterday evening.

Three of them -- Aminur Rahman, 37, Atowar, 35, Ataur, 37, -- were undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital while another, Nur Mahamad, 33, was given primary treatment at the hospital. They all work at Nasrin Automobile Factory.

Quoting doctors, Shamim Hossain, a worker at the factory, said the admitted three sustained 7 to 10 percent burns and they are out of danger.

Fire engulfed the entire kitchen around 6:30pm when the workers went to the kitchen and lit up a gas lighter to prepare dinner, he said, adding that the other workers later rushed there and doused the fire.

Abdul Awal, officer in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying that they visited the factory after the incident.
