Khulna doctors protest assault on colleague

Doctors of public and private hospitals of Khulna observed work abstention yesterday, protesting assault on a fellow doctor by relatives of a patient. 

One Ripon Hossain was allegedly a victim of maltreatment at the city’s Khalishpur Clinic and Diagnostic Center.

After Ripon died on Sunday, his relatives and friends beat up on-duty physician Dr Md Sujuddin, said witnesses.

Doctors observed the abstention from 11am to 1pm, and demonstrated on Shaheed Milan premises in the city.

They also handed a memorandum to Khulna’s deputy commissioner and Metropolitan Police commissioner.

Sonadanga police rescued Sujuddin and admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital on Sunday.

Mujahidul Islam, owner of the clinic, claimed that physicians tried their best to treat Ripon but failed.

Sujuddin filed a case, accusing several people. Sonadanga police also arrested two persons yesterday in connection.
