Khulna, Bagerhat political leaders pledge to ensure peaceful election

Over 50 leaders from different political parties including Awami League (AL) and BNP in Khulna and Bagerhat yesterday vowed to uphold peace during the upcoming national polls.

They made the pledge at a programme titled “Shantite Bijoy or Win with Peace”, a national campaign seeking peace in the run-up to the polls, organised by Democracy International (DI) at a hotel in Khulna city.

The programme is being funded by USAID and UKAID under “Strengthening Political Landscape (SPL)” project.

The programme aims to raise awareness among candidates and political parties to promote peaceful atmosphere during the elections through mutual respect and solidarity among people with difference of opinion and views.

Among others, Prof Jafor Imam, Khulna Awami League President Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Mizanur Rahman Mizan (MP, Khulna-2), Khulna city Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, BNP leader Nazrul Islam Monju, former KCC mayor Moniruzzaman Moni, Bagerhat BNP President MA Salam, and Deputy Chief of Party at Democracy International Austin R Power spoke at the programme.
