Khagrachhari accident leaves child dead

Two die in other road crashes

A child died after a microbus hit her in T&T area in ​​Khagrachhari Sadar upazila around 9:30am yesterday.

The deceased is 20-month-old Roksana Akhter, daughter of Badal Mia, a trader.

According to witnesses, the accident occurred when the microbus was taking a turn, and Roksana was playing on the street.

After the collision, the driver took critically injured Roksana to Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Md Rashid, officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari Police Station, said no legal step was taken as the father is in Barishal and mother is not in a condition to make any decisions. Police, however, seized the microbus.

Meanwhile, at least two people were killed in other accidents in two districts during the last two days, our correspondent and a news agency report.

In Faridpur, shopkeeper Sunil Roy, 70, was killed after a pick-up ran him over on Majkandi-Bhatiapara road in Boalmari upazila around 6am yesterday, said police, quoting locals.

The accident took place when Sunil was returning home by his bicycle, after attending a cremation of his relative.

The pick-up driver fled the scene with the vehicle.

Locals rushed critically injured Sunil to the upazila health complex where an on-duty doctor declared him dead, they added.

In Sirajganj, an unidentified man, aged about 40, was killed on the spot after a truck hit his bicycle at Hatikumrul roundabout in Ullapara upazila around 9pm on Saturday, said police.

Police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee.
