Jungle cat rescued in Sylhet

Forest department yesterday rescued a trapped jungle cat, also known as also called reed cat and swamp cat, from Shahi Eidgah area in Sylhet city.

One Niyamat Ali set a trap cage near his poultry farm to prevent animals from hunting his chickens and turkeys.

On Wednesday night, the jungle cat came from a nearby tea garden and got trapped inside a cage. Yesterday morning, Niyamat called the forest officials asking them to rescue it, said RSM Munirul Islam, divisional forest officer in Sylhet.

“The cat sustained injuries in its face while trying to break the cage after being trapped”, he said, adding it will be released at Khadimnagar National Park after primary treatment at Sylhet Wildlife Conservation Centre.
