Sexual Harassment, Drug Abuse

JU suspends 3 students, warns 10 others

The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities in an office order yesterday announced three to six months’ suspension for three students over sexual harassment and drug abuse charges.

Rahima Kaniz, acting registrar of JU, said the suspension term would be effective from January 18 when the JU syndicate at a meeting approved the suspension order with Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam in the chair.

The syndicate suspended Azgar Hossain Rabbi, a fourth-year student of Drama and Dramatics department, for three months for harassing a female student of the same department in a laboratory in 2017.

Two other students were issued written warnings for their involvement in the same incident.

Sazzad Hossain Sayem of Computer Science and Engineering and Moeen Uddin Jony of Bangla were suspended for six months as they were caught red-handed while taking drugs in room 335 of AFM Kamaluddin Hall on August 11, 2017.

The authorities also issued written warnings to eight other students who were found involved in the same incident.
