Journos protest attack on colleagues

Journalists in Rangpur yesterday demanded immediate arrest of three students over a recent attack on two colleagues at Begum Rokeya University.

To place the demand, the protesters formed a human chain under the banner of Begum Rokeya University Journalists Association at Sheikh Russell Media square on the university campus.

Journalists from various newspapers and electronic media and the students of mass communication and journalism department of the university took part in the one-hour human chain.

Mahmud-Ul Islam Joy and his two associates attacked the journalists in a bid to kill them, alleged the speakers. Such a situation cannot continue on the campus, they said.

Mahbub Rahman of the daily Jugantor, Ratan Sarkar of Somoy Television and Zitu Kabir of jagonews24.com, among others, spoke.

On January 29, Mahmud-Ul Islam Joy, a former organising secretary of BRU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, beat Al Amin Hossain of the Sangbad and Samya Sarkar of the Bangladesh Pratidin following a dispute over seats at a dormitory, said Al Amin.

However, Joy denied the allegation.
