Journalist Abu Bakar Chowdhury dies

Abu Bakar Chowdhury, acting editor of daily Manabkantha, passed away yesterday at a city hospital, following a cardiac arrest. He was 54.

Chowdhury breathed his last at 5:15am after he was rushed to the hospital from his Dhanmondi residence, family sources said. He left behind his mother and wife to mourn his death.

Chowdhury will be buried at Azimpur graveyard in Dhaka following a namaz-e-janaza today after Zohr prayers at At-takwa mosque on road-12/A in Dhanmondi.

Abu Bakar started his journalism career in 1991.

He had worked for the Weekly Protayon, Weekly Khabor, Ajker Kajog, Amader Somoy, Sokaler Khabor and Samakal before joining the Manabkantha as its acting editor.

Newly appointed Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Abu Bakar Chowdhury. He said the nation has lost a dedicated and sincere journalist.
