Jatka Protection Week begins on March 10

“Jatka Protection Week 2019” will begin on March 10 and continue till March 16, across 37 districts in the country.

The decision came in a meeting of the national taskforce on hilsa development held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock at the secretariat in Dhaka, said a press release.

During the protection week, use of illegal net for catching hilsa would be strictly prohibited and government will also conduct various awareness building programmes against fishing jatka (young hilsa less than nine inches in length).

State Minister for Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khoshru presided over the meeting while Secretary Raisul Alam Mandal was present.
