Jamaat leader held in port city

Police yesterday arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami leader and activist during separate raids in port city.

The arrestees are Abul Mansur, 50, Bakalia Police Station unit ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Nasar Ullah, 40, a Jamaat activist, according to law enforcers.

Mansur was arrested from his residence in Kalamiah Bazar, said Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station.

During another drive, law enforcers arrested Nasar from Rasul Bagh area, said the OC.

Both Mansur and Nasar were accused in five cases filed with the police station over vandalising several vehicles, he added.

 

MAN ARRESTED WITH FIREARM

Police arrested a man in possession of a makeshift gun from the port city’s Patenga area yesterday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Mobarak, 19, said police.

Assistant Commissioner (AC, Karnaphuli Zone) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Yasir Arafat said acting on a tip-off, police arrested Mobarak from the area around 11am. They also seized the gun and a bullet after frisking him.

Police were interrogating him to get information about the firearm, and a case was lodged with Patenga Police Station in this connection, said the AC.
