IUB holds int’l English debate tournament

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised its largest debate tournament titled “IUB Ascension 2019” on December 12-15 at the university’s campus in the capital’s Bashundhara, said a press release. 

The grand finale and award giving ceremony took place on December 15. A total of 120 teams -- including 12 from abroad -- under different schools, colleges and universities participated in the international tournament.

Foreign participants came from the UK, Australia, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Nepal.

In open and novice categories, IBA-DU clinched the championship trophies. In the high school category, Academia became the champion.

Rohit Midha from Igniting Mind India, Sajid Khandakar from IBA-DU and Inqiyad Patwary from Mastermind won the Best Individual Speaker’s award for novice, open and high school categories respectively.

Rashed Chowdhury, former chair of IUB board of trustees and Prof Milan Pagon, vice chancellor (acting), spoke on the occasion and distributed prizes among winners.
