Invest in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has urged French businessmen and investors to invest in Bangladesh's energy, infrastructure and other sectors, taking advantage of the country's demographic dividend and attractive packages that are on offer in 100 Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen made the call during a meeting with a visiting five-member delegation of the France-South East Asia Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group at the Foreign Ministry yesterday morning.

Led by Senator and President of the Group, Jacky Deromedi, the delegation admired the impressive development in Bangladesh and expressed their interest to organise a business forum within French parliament, engaging the country's business community, where Bangladesh could showcase its economic and business opportunities.

The foreign minister also sought continued French support to create conducive environment inside Rakhine State of Myanmar for the dignified return of Rohingyas, said a Foreign Ministry press release.

The French delegation highly appreciated the significant support that was extended by Bangladesh to the Rohingya people and assured to continue supporting the cause of the Rohingyas.

Referring to French support during the Liberation War in 1971, Momen fondly recalled the important contribution made by renowned French intellectual and politician Andre Malraux during and after the war.

He also praised France and her people for being a beacon of democracy for freedom loving people across the world.  

Other members of the delegation are: Jerome Durian, president of the Bangladesh sub-group; Simon Sutour, senator of Gard Region; and Anne Laure Saint-Dizier, executive and secretary of the Senate House.

The group covers six Asean countries: Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Bangladesh. 

Earlier on Wednesday, the French delegation met with Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The delegation also visited a garment factory near Dhaka.
