Int’l math conference begins at DU

A twelve-day long international workshop titled “Research School on Dynamical Systems and its Applications to Biology” began at Dhaka University (DU) yesterday.

DU VC Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the event at AF Mujibur Rahman Mathematics Building.

DU’s department of mathematics, International Centre for Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) and AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation jointly organised this event.

CIMPA Research School’s local coordinator Prof Md Shahidul Islam told The Daily Star that a total of 60 local and international academicians and researchers are participating at the workshop.

Speaking at the event, Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, deputy minister of education, stressed the need for making mathematics more attractive to students.

Marie Annick Bourdin, French Ambassador to Bangladesh, stressed the need for undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes between DU and other universities from around the world.
