Idols found vandalised at two temples

Seven idols at two adjoining temples in Sreepur of Gazipur were found vandalised early yesterday. The temples are Sonabo Kalibari Battala Durga Mandir and Gobinda Mandir.

“Miscreants must have vandalised those late Sunday night. Though there were no caretakers at the time, the temples were locked from outside,” said Badal Chandra, president of the Sonabo Kalibari temple committee.

Jabedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said, “A woman and child first noticed the vandalised idols from outside in the morning. The locks were found intact when we visited the spots.”

“We are looking into the matter,” he added.
