Hindus set to observe Saraswati Puja on city polls day

The country’s Hindu community yesterday decided to celebrate the Saraswati Puja on January 30, which is coinciding with the two Dhaka city corporations polls day.

The decision was taken during a meeting of Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee that took place at the conference room of Dhakeswari National Temple in the city, said a press release.

With the committee President Shailendra Nath Majumder in the chair, the meeting unanimously fixed the day as per traditional Loknath O Nabojug Directory Panjika, says the release.

On December 26, Hindu community leaders protested the Election Commission’s decision to hold the two Dhaka city corporation polls on the day of Saraswati Puja (January 30).

They expressed their dissatisfaction at a joint meeting of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee, according to a press release.
