HC rejects plea of Destiny Group MD

The High Court today upheld the lower court order that rejected a petition filed by Destiny Group Managing Director Rafiqul Amin seeking an order to open bank account of the company and to permit him to withdraw Tk two crore per month to run the company and to pay the salary the staff.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam rejected the appeal filed by Rafiqul challenging the lower court order.

Rafiqul Amin cannot withdraw money from the bank account of the Destiny Group following the HC order, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.

A Dhaka court on February 2, 2016, rejected a petition filed by Managing Director Rafiqul Amin seeking its order to open a bank account of the company and to permit him to withdraw Tk two crore per month to run the company and to pay the salary the staff.

The Dhaka court said in the order that it will not permit the Destiny Group Managing Director to withdraw money from the bank account as the two separate money laundering cases against Rafiqul is standing with this court.

Rafiqul Amin, who has been staying in jail since 2012, filed an appeal with the HC against the Dhaka court order.

Barrister Ajmalul Hossain and Barrister Mainul Islam appeared for Rafiqul while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.
