GRAFT CASE AGAINST FORMER BNP DY MINISTER

HC clears way for continuing Abdul Hye’s trial

The High Court yesterday cleared way for a lower court to resume trial proceedings of a corruption case against former BNP deputy minister Abdul Hye Tuhin.

The court lifted its earlier order that had stayed the trial proceedings and rejected his petition, seeking cancellation of the proceedings. The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam delivered the verdict after holding a final hearing.

Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Abdul Hye, a former deputy minister for LGRD, with Motijheel Police Station on November 9, 2016 on charge of taking allocation of a plot in Dhaka from Rajuk by submitting a false affidavit.

ACC submitted charge sheet against him to the trial court on November 28, 2017, said ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan.

The HC on May 10 last year stayed the proceedings and issued a rule asking ACC why it should not be scrapped.

Abdul Hye secured ad-interim bail from the HC on November 9, 2017, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told reporters.

Advocate Khandker Md Khurshid Alam appeared for Abdul Hye.
