Hathazari madrasa selects next leader

Majlish-e-Shura, the top body of the Al Jameyatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Madrasa, popularly known as Hathazari madarasa, has chosen who would lead it in absence of Ahmed Shafi, now Muhtamim (director general) and Amir of Hafazat-e-Islam.

The 11-member body of the largest Qawmi educational facility in the country convened a meeting at the madrasa on Wednesday, which lasted for six hours, before selecting Sheikh Ahmed, a senior Muhaddis (Hadith expert) of the madrasa as next Muhtamim.

The meeting was chaired by Ahmed Shafi, who fell sick several times recently due to old-age complications.

After the meeting , Moulana Noman Fayzi, one of the shura members, declared the selection of Sheikh Ahmed, who had severed all relations with the madrasa in 2003 over internal disputes, and joined the organisation again a few years back.

Moulana Mahmudul Hasan, a member of Majlish-e-Shura told The Daily Star that they unanimously selected Shiekh Ahmed as next Muhtamim of the madrasa, in absence of Allama Ahmed Shafi.

In another meeting of the Majlish-e-Shura in 2017, Junayed Babu Nagari was selected as Nayeb-e-Muhtamim (assistant director general), deemed next in line to lead the madrasha as Muhtamim.

The body, in its declaration, said Junayed Babu Nagari withdrew himself from the post he was conferred in 2017.
