Halt housing projects constructed without DSCC’s approval: Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today gave instructions to suspend all housing projects constructed without permission of the city corporation.

The mayor came up with the instruction while visiting Fakirkhali under Ward 75 around 11:00am today.

"Stop, stop, stop this unapproved housing projects," Mayor Taposh said.

Different housing projects are being constructed illegally by filing up parts of Jirani and Rampura canals, he said.

"We have visited the areas and directed concerned officials to take necessary steps to stop the activities," he said.

Taposh visited the Balu river banks, Dasher Kandi, Kayetpara Bazar, Iderkandi and Fakirkhali areas as part of his regular weekly visit to different areas of the DSCC.

He found some housing projects are occupying lands without DSCC permission and the projects are being implemented in an unplanned way.

Mayor Taposh said they have already directed their estate department and zonal officials concerned to stop dredging in the areas.

"They will not be allowed to construct housing projects without permission and if necessary DSCC will seize vehicles and equipment of the companies," he said.

"We want to keep a playground in every ward of Dhaka city where children will be able to play," he said.

Responding to a question, Mayor Taposh said the lands which they are recovering from illegal encroachers will be used as open playground and they will not give it to any club or organisation.

They also recovered a big place from encroachers in ward-7 where they will construct a playground, he added.

Among others, chief executive of DSCC ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, chief waste management officer air commodore Md Badrul Amin, chief engineer Rezaur Rahman and chief estate officer Rassel Subrin were present.
