‘Graft, militant funding interlinked’

ACC chief says

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood yesterday said corruption, militant funding and terrorism are interlinked.

“The way CTTC [Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime] prevents crime before it happens, ACC is trying to do the same to prevent graft,” he said while inaugurating a weeklong training at DMP Media Center in the capital.

ACC and CTTC jointly organised the training for 25 officials of the anti-graft watchdog.

“We’ve been saying over the years that ACC has certain lackings. To overcome it, the commission is training its officials,” said Iqbal.

Because of weakness in investigation, the success rate of conviction had dropped to 22 percent. However, it is now 70 percent, he added.

DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said due to the advancement of technology, the nature of crime has changed.

Shafiqul said using new technology, criminals always attempt to dodge law enforcers and that is why officials have to remain updated with new technology.
