Graft Charges: Kaiser Hamid gets bail in two cases

A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to former footballer Kaiser Hamid in connection with two cases filed over “fraudulence of money”.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order after his lawyer submitted two petitions seeking bail in the cases.

However, Kaiser could not be freed as another case filed against him on similar charges is still pending with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court in Dhaka.

The three cases were filed with the Dhaka CMM court in July and August in 2014. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police is investigating all the three cases.

On January 20, CID arrested the former skipper of the national football team from Elephant Road area.

The following day, a Dhaka court sent him to jail after he was produced before it in connection with the cases.

According to the case statement, the former captain of Bangladesh football team had formed a multi-level-marketing company named New Way Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and took money from a number of people for the organisation.

The organisation was closed down several years back, and people who had invested money in it sued Kaiser, it added.
