Govt keen on South Korean companies for dev projects
Housing and public works secretary says
The government yesterday invited South Korean construction companies and investors to come forward and be part of its “smart city” development and township projects.
Speaking at a workshop as chief guest at the InterContinental Dhaka, additional secretary to housing and public works ministry, Akhter Hossain, said they will welcome South Korean construction companies and investors for their smart city development and township projects, where Korean technology and expertise are needed.
Mentioning South Korea as a good friend of Bangladesh, he said the East Asian country's contribution to Bangladesh's readymade garment industry has been noteworthy.
Heerim Architects & Planners, in cooperation with the Korea Trade Promotion Agency (KOTRA), organised the event, titled “Bangladesh CM (Construction Management) Workshop”.
Akhter said housing and public works ministry has been working at the forefront to implement the sustainable development goals by 2030 to ensure access to safe and affordable housing and basic services for all.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to ensure affordable housing for all and has a vision to make Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041, he said.
In this regard, ministry of housing and public works has initiated massive development projects and programmes in order to solve the housing problems of homeless, low and middle income people, he added.
At the event, Heerim, a well-known South Korean architectural design and construction management company, shed light on advanced construction project management techniques and provided examples of successful projects.
Heerim provides comprehensive architectural services in all fields including airports, hospitals, hotels, and residential areas. It established a branch office in Bangladesh, and was involved in Osmani airport, Saidpur airport, Barishal airport, NBL Tower and many other projects.
“This workshop will be a great opportunity to help Bangladeshi companies with technical expertise and skills. I hope this will be a chance to develop a friendly business relationship,” said Jo Eunsang, country manager, Heerim Architects & Planners.
