Govt to bring back Bangladeshis from US

The government has taken initiative to bring back Bangladeshis, who are stranded in the US for over six weeks, by a special flight next week.

The chartered flight of Qatar Airways is likely to fly from Washington Dulles International Airport or New York John F Kennedy Airport on May 14 or 15, said Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC.

A press release signed by Shamim Ahmad, minister (press) at the embassy, said in coordination with Bangladesh consulates in New York and Los Angeles, authorities will facilitate return of the stuck Bangladeshi citizens.

Before boarding, all passengers must present "Covid-19 negative certificate" obtained from any US hospital or doctor.

Those willing to avail the special flight at their own expenses are advised to contact Oryx Aviation Ltd by visiting its online portal: galaxyaviationbd.com/airticket, register their names and purchase tickets to confirm seats by May 8, reads the release.

The fare for each ticket for economy class would be approximately USD 2,200, the press release further added.

The government has so far arranged special flights to bring back Bangladeshis from India, Thailand, Singapore and the Maldives.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh on May 5 extended ongoing ban on flight operation with all countries, except for China, till May 16.
