Chittagong customs officials on Tuesday recovered around Tk 1 crore worth of gold, weighing 2.03 kilograms, at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.

The gold was concealed inside a salad chopper of a luggage belonging to a passenger of an Air Arabia flight that had landed at the airport on Saturday morning, said Mahbubur Rahman, assistant commissioner at Chittagong Custom House.

The passenger, Hafez Mohammad Khairul Bashar, 42, was detained on Tuesday afternoon when he came to the airport to claim his luggage, he added.

The confiscated gold will be deposited to Bangladesh Bank and cases under applicable laws will be filed against the detained individual, the customs official said.
