Freeing Turag: Drive against illegal brick kilns underway

The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday began a drive against illegal brick kilns on the banks of Turag river in Ashulia of Savar.

A DoE team led by Executive Magistrate Tamzid Ahmed started the daylong drive around noon and partially demolished four brick kilns in Paragon area.

Those are Turag Bricks, Seven Star Bricks, Titas Bricks and Sony Bricks. The court fined Turag Bricks and Sony Bricks Tk 20 lakh each.

Owners of the other two brick kilns went into hiding, said Tamzid Ahmed. “Legal steps will be taken against them,” he added.

Members of police, fire service and Rab assisted DoE during the drive.
