Free accessories for physically challenged

Wheelchairs and other specialised accessories were distributed among persons with disabilities in Savar yesterday.

Using funds from Local Governance Support Programme (LGSP), Swanirvar Dhamshona Union Parishad (UP) distributed the accessories at a programme held at UP premises where State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Dr Enamur Rahman was present as chief guest.

Some 14 wheelchairs, six hearing aids, six sunglasses and other equipment were distributed among 29 beneficiaries.

One of them, Akash Jaman Tareq, said, “This wheelchair will be very helpful.”   

Saiful Islam, chairman of the UP, said, “We're always trying to make the lives of physically challenged people better, and this initiative was part of that.”

“In the future, we will work on more projects like this,” he added.

Dr Enamur Rahman said distribution of special equipment among the physically challenged is a good initiative. Every Union Parishad should take such initiatives, the state minister added.
