Fraudsters arrested with equipment, fake stamps worth Tk 1cr

DB nabs members of mugging gang

Detective Branch (DB) of police in a special drive yesterday arrested two people from the capital’s Paltan area, allegedly for selling fake revenue stamps.

The arrestees were identified as Rasel Ahmed Shanto and Md Nayem Islam.

A team of DB (series crime investigation department) also recovered fake revenue stamps, plates and others equipment worth Tk 1.02 crore from their possession, said Abdul Baten, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

In primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they used to prepare fake stamps and used to sell those at different districts of the country, said Baten, while addressing a press briefing at DMP media centre.

At the same press where these used to be printed, supporters of Hizb-ut Tahrir also used to print their posters, leaflets and books.

The DB team also recovered huge stash of leaflets and books.  A case was filed against the two with Paltan Police Station in connection with the seizure. .

Meanwhile, several teams of DB (west) and series crime investigation department conducted drives in various areas of the capital, and arrested 21 members of mugging gangs in the last 24 hours.

The DB teams recovered 250 sleeping pills and 34 other drugs used to drug people to steal their belongings, said the additional commissioner.

In primary interrogation, the arrestees informed that they used to dope people after chatting them up during the rush of cattle markets and shopping malls ahead of Eid-ul Azha. Later, they used to take away valuables and money from the victims.
