Four killed in road crashes

Four people, including a woman and her son were killed in three road accidents across the country in the last two days.

In Netrakona, Tania Akter, 35, and her 12-year-old son Momen Mia died after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw they were in collided head-on with a bus on Netrakona-Madan road in Gadaikandi area around 8am, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Tania died on the spot, while Momen succumbed to his injuries at Netrakona Sadar Hospital, said Netrakona Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Borhan Uddin Khan.

Tania's daughter Habiba Akter, 15, sustained serious injuries in the accident. She was undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC said, adding that dense fog might have caused the accident.

Police seized the vehicles, but drivers of both vehicles managed to flee. A case was filed in this connection.

In Chapainawabganj, a seven-year-old boy was run over by a bus while crossing the road in Hogla area of Gomostapur upazila, reports our correspondent.

Jasimuddin, OC of Gomostapur Police Station, said the accident took place around 7am. The boy was identified as Md Ibrahim, 7, son of Anarul Islam from Hogla village.

Police seized the bus and arrested its driver.

Meanwhile in Dhaka, a female admission seeker to Jagannath University was killed when a pickup truck knocked her down near Postagola bridge at Shyampur on Saturday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Afroza Akhter, 25, daughter of Rabiul Islam from Jurain area in the city.

The vehicle hit Afroza around 9pm while she was waiting for a bus to get home after private tuition, said her brother Shariful Islam.

She was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors pronounced her dead around 10:15pm, said Sub-inspector (SI) Bachchu Mia of DMCH police outpost.

The body was sent to the morgue for autopsy, the SI added.
