Four get life term in Khulna murder case

A Khulna court delivered life sentence to four people for killing a man from Dumuria upazila in Khulna.

They were also fined Tk 10,000, in default of which they will have to serve six more months in prison. Judge Md Yarab Hossain of Khulna Additional District and Sessions Court yesterday announced the verdict. Five others were acquitted in the case.

The deceased was identified as Hafiz Farhaduzzaman, son of late Babar Ali of Moulvipara village under Shovna Union of Dumuria upazila.

The convicts are Shaheed Tafadar, Amin Sardar, Azizul Sardar and Solaiman Sardar.

The acquitted are Momin Sardar, Sabur Sardar, Noor Islam Sardar, Zulfikar Sardar and Nisar Sardar.

Public prosecutor M Elias Khan said that on June 5, 2015, Hafiz Farhaduzzaman was beaten to death while he was returning home from jumma prayers.

The deceased’s brother Faruk Hossain filed a case at Dumuria Police Station against nine people.

SI Jahangir Hossain, investigation officer (IO) of Dumuria Police Station filed a charge against nine people on October 9 of that year. In the case, 22 witnesses out of 30 were accepted.
