Four brick kilns fined Tk 22 lakh in Savar

The Department of Environment yesterday  fined four brick kilns TK 22 lakh in Savar for running their businesses without clearance certificates and permission.

DoE Executive Magistrate Tamzid Ahmed conducted the eviction drive at 11am near Amin Bazar area, Mossabber Hossen Mohammed Rajib, assistant director (Dhaka district) of DoE, told The Daily Star.

He said ABS Bricks and BCM Bricks were fined Tk 6 lakh each as both were running their businesses without clearance certificate while Fahad Bricks and DBS Bricks were fined Tk 5 lakh each for using topsoil.

Authorities of ABS Bricks and BCM Bricks were asked to shut down their kilns while BCM Bricks was partially demolished, said the assistant director.

Fire service, police and Rab officials were also present during the daylong drive.

The same mobile court also demolished an illegal auto-rickshaw battery recharge centre.
