Former Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmed dies of Covid-19

Maqbul Ahmed, former Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, died of coronavirus at a hospital in Dhaka yesterday afternoon.

He breathed his last at the ICU of Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital, confirmed the party's current Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman through a statement on his official Facebook page.

He expressed deep sorrow at the demise of the former Ameer and sought emancipation of his departed soul.

Makbul was the acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam from 29 June 2010 to October 2016.

Later, he served as its elected Ameer from 2017 to 2019 before handing over the responsibility to Dr Shafiqur.
