After struggling for his life for days, a former Chittagong University (CU) teacher, who was critically injured in a road accident on September 22, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night at a hospital in Dhaka.

Dr Md Shah, 67, a former professor of history department, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University’s (BSMMU) intensive care unit around 10:30pm, said victim’s friend Prof Golam Kibria Bhuiyan.

He was taken to BSMMU by air ambulance on Sunday morning as his condition deteriorated, Prof Kibria added.

He left behind his wife, children and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Earlier, on September 22, Dr Shah was critically injured and three died on the spot after a bus collided with their CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Hathazari area adjacent to CU campus.

After the accident, police seized both the vehicles but the bus driver managed to flee. A case was filed in this connection.

Locals rushed Dr Shah to a nearby health complex, and he was later shifted to Chittagong Medical Centre (CMC).

CMC doctors said due to excessive internal bleeding, he was in a coma since the accident. His brain was damaged, and he was in life support since September 22.

He will be buried at the family graveyard in his native village.
