Five killed, three injured in road accidents

Five people were killed and three others injured in road accidents in five districts in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Cumilla, a man was killed as a bus hit him on Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Paduarbazar yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Musa Kalimullah, 55, from Pombaish village in Barura upazila, said Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Cumilla Sadar South Police Station.

In Jamalpur, an elderly woman was killed and a motorcyclist was injured when the motorbike hit her while she was crossing Jamalpur-Islampur road at Charpolisha in Melandah upazila yesterday.

Shahtun Bewa, 65, from Charpolisha village in the upazila, died on the spot, said Melandah Police Station OC Rezaul Karim.

The injured, whose identity could not be known immediately, was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.

In Chattogram,a man was killed and two were injured as a truck hit another truck parked beside Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Nunachara area of Sitakunda upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, 22, said fire service.

The injured -- Amanullah Aman, 21, and Md Hridoy, 13 -- were taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, said Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (Chattogram Zone).

In Jhenidah, a truck ran a motorbike over in front of Mukijoddha complex in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday, killing its rider instantly.

The victim was identified as Habibur Rahman, 25, from Kushtia, said police.

In Thakurgaon, a man was killed as a truck hit his motorbike on Dhaka-Panchagarh highway at Salondar Chowdhuryhat Bazar in Sadar upazila on Saturday.

The deceased -- Abdus Samad, 58 -- was the head teacher of Dakkhin Araji Krisnapur Government Primary School, said locals.

Police seized the truck but its driver and the helper managed to escape.
