Five killed, 22 injured in road accidents

Five people were killed and 22 persons injured in road accidents in five districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Tangail, two youths were killed as a truck and their bike collided on Elenga-Bhuapur Road in Adabari area of Kalihati upazila on Sunday.

Selim Miah, 17, and Abdus Sattar, 18, from Analiabari village, died on the spot.

The bodies were sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Abdur Razzak, senior station manager of Tangail Fire Station. Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak of Kalihai Police Station said they seized the truck but the driver and his helper managed to flee.

In Jamalpur, a woman was killed after a truck hit her at Jabbarganj Bazar in Baksiganj upazila on Sunday.

Amena Begum, 50, wife of Noor Alam from Kheyarchar village in the upazila, was initially taken to Baksiganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, she died on the way to Jamalpur General Hospital, said AKM Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge of Baksiganj Police Station.

In Faridpur, a woman was killed and two people were injured as a bus hit them while they were crossing Talma-Chadhat road in Shilabari area of Nagarkanda upazila yesterday.

Rafaza Begum, 35, wife of Habib Sheikh from the area, died on the spot.

The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

In Gaibandha, at least 15 passengers of a bus were injured as the vehicle plunged into a ditch beside Bogura-Rangpur highway in Boali area yesterday.

Khairuzzaman, officer in charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station, said the accident happened as the driver lost control over the steering.

Police and firefighters rescued the injured persons and sent them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, five persons were transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The driver and helper fled the scene, said police.

In Thakurgaon, a worker of Palli Bidyut Samity was killed and five people were injured when a human haulier fell into a roadside ditch in Sreekestopur village of Sadar upazila yesterday.

Nazrul Islam, 34, son of Abu Hanif from Shibganj village in Bogura, died on the spot, said Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon Police Station.

Locals rushed the injured to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
