Five killed, 14 injured in road accidents

At least five people were killed and 14 were injured in road accidents in two districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents and news agencies.

In Noakhali, at least four construction workers were killed and 13 were injured when a truck carrying them overturned in Begumganj upazila.

The deceased were Musa, 25; Rubel, 35, from Bagerhat; Md Nuru of Gaibandha and Moslem.

The vehicle overturned when its driver lost control over the steering at Chowmohani Bazar on Feni-Noakhali highway around 7am, said Harun Ur Rashid Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC) of Begumganj Police Station, quoting locals.

One construction worker died on the spot while the others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Noakhali General Hospital. The other injured are being treated and the deceased were sent to the hospital’s morgue, the OC said.

In Nilphamari, a motorcyclist was killed and another was injured as a microbus hit it at Fultola area on Nilphamari-Syedpur road.

The deceased was Habibur Rahman, 22, from Kanchanpara village.

Police said the accident occurred around 7am, and Habibur died on the spot.
