First Bangladeshi expedition to Mt Pharchamo on May 21

Four Bangladeshi youths, led by veteran mountaineer MA Mohit, will go on an expedition to scale Mount Pharchamo in the Himalayas.

The team will leave Dhaka on May 21, Bangla Mountaineers and Trekking Club (BMTC) told reporters yesterday.

The expedition was sponsored by Ispahani Tea Limited, Azim Group and Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited.

“We hope to return on June 10 after scaling the approximately 20,300 feet high mountain,” said Riasad Sunvi, one of the team members.

The other members are Bahlul Maznu, Shayla Parvin and MA Mohit. Bahlul and Shayla are seasoned climbers while this is Riasad’s first expedition. He has completed basic mountaineering training in India.

National Professor Anisuzzaman said that mountaineering is a risky but enjoyable job and hoped that the affluent members of the society will come forward to help the mountaineers.

Charge of Affaires of the Nepalese embassy Dhan Bahadur Oli encouraged Bangladeshi climbers to pursue their dreams.

Antarctica and North Pole expeditor Enam Ul Haque sought corporate support for mountaineers’ expeditions.
