Fire guts valuables worth Tk 10 lakh

A fire gutted valuables of seven shops and two houses worth Tk 10 lakh in Patharghata area of the port city yesterday morning.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit around 10:25am in a shop selling warm clothes and soon spread to the other shops and houses, said Jashim Uddin Ahmed, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (Chattogram zone).

Four units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control at 10:40am, said Jashim Uddin, adding that it was doused completely around 12:00pm.

The shops were owned by one Nurul Anwar and houses by one Akhter Ali, he said quoting locals.
