Fire at Notun Bazar slum in Kalyanpur brought under control; 2 injured

Two people were injured in a fire that broke out at Notun Bazar slum in Kalyanpur in the capital tonight.

The injured – Anwar (21) and Akter (19) -- were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, sources at the hospital told The Daily Star.

The duo suffered fifty percent burn injuries, sources at the hospital added.

The fire broke out at the slum around 10:03pm, said Mahfuz Riben, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters control room.

Nine units of fire-fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 11:10pm, said Mahfuz Riben.

Mirpur fire service station leader Manik fell sick while dousing the fire, said the fire service control room, adding that he was being taken to hospital.

The reason behind the fire could not be known yet.
