Fazilatun Nasa Bappy laid to rest

Former lawmaker of Awami League from reserved seat, Advocate Fazilatun Nasa Bappy, was laid to eternal rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard on Thursday evening.

She breathed her last around 8am on Thursday at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital at the age of 49.

On December 27, she was admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia and respiratory ailments. Later, she was shifted to the ICU as her condition deteriorated.

Her first namaz-e-janaza was held at Japan Garden City and a second janaza was held at 3pm at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

On behalf of the president, his military secretary placed wreaths on the coffin of Bappy.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Bappy by placing wreaths on her coffin. The premier stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to her memory.

Besides, JS Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mian placed wreaths on the coffin of the deceased.

On behalf of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Begum Raushan Ershad and Jatiya Party lawmaker Fakhrul Imam placed wreaths on the coffin. JS Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury also placed wreaths on her coffin.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud joined the namaz-e-janaza among others. Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim read out a short biography of Bappy.

Born on December 31 in 1970, Fazilatun Nasa Bappy was elected MP in the 9th and 10th parliament from reserved seat. She was also an International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor and an Assistant Attorney General of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
