Faridpur MP Rushema Imam passes away

Rushema Begum, a member of the parliament in reserved seat, has died from heart attack in Faridpur on Tuesday.

She was 85 years old. She left behind two sons and a daughter.

Saiful Ahad Selim, elder son of Rushema Begum, said, “She was admitted to Faridpur Heart Foundation Hospital following a cardiac arrest at her residence in Habeli Gopalpur area in the district on Tuesday. She breathed her last at 11:30pm.”

Rushema was born on January 2, 1936. She was the wife of Imamuddin Ahmad, former president of Awami League’s Faridpur district unit. She was the principal of Ishan Memorial High School.

Rushema took oath as an Awami League MP from Faridpur on Februrary 20 in a seat reserved for women.

PARLIAMENT ADOPTS CONDOLENCE MOTION

The parliament yesterday unanimously adopted a condolence motion, expressing profound grief at the demise of Rushema Begum. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House.

Taking part in the condolence motion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Rushema Begum was a dedicated leader and she played a pivotal role in women’s development.
