Explosives seized: 12 Habiganj BNP men sued

Police in separate drives seized bombs and explosives in Bahubal and Lakhai upazilas of Habiganj yesterday and the day before.

Masuk Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bahubal Police Station, said on secret information, they raided Mirpur area on Wednesday night and seized six crude bombs and six petrol bombs from a secluded place.

Police suspect that a certain quarter had hidden these explosives there with plans to conduct sabotage.

Meanwhile, Lakhai police seized 22 crude bombs, two petrol bombs and one box of gunpowder from Bulla Bazar area early yesterday.

Informed that a gang was planning to conduct subversive activities in the area, a police team raided there and seized the bombs and explosives.

However, the criminals managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, said OC Emran Hossain of Lakhai Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Abul Bashar of the police station later filed a case against upazila unit BNP General Secretary Abdul Wadud and 11 other activists in connection with the incident.

OC Emran said initial investigation has revealed a BNP faction stored the explosives and planned to conduct acts of sabotage.
