Excavator used in digging arable land seized in Ctg

Local administration seized two trucks and one excavator as those were being used in digging and carrying soil from a piece of arable land in Chattogram yesterday.

The seizure was made after Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ruhul Amin conducted a drive in Sikarpur union between 12:00 noon and 1:30pm.

UNO Ruhul Amin told The Daily Star, “We could not arrest anyone as they [the offenders] fled the scene sensing the drive.”

“This is really a phenomenon to be worried over,” he said.

Such malpractice is rampant in almost every union of the upazila. The soil is supplied to brick kilns and embankment being constructed along the river Halda, he added.
