Ex-Ducsu GS Murshed Ali passes away

Murshed Ali, a freedom fighter and a Communist Party of Bangladesh leader, died at a city hospital yesterday, aged 76.

Former general secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union, Murshed was a member of CPB's Central Control Commission, a supreme disciplinary body of the party.

He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on March 26 following a stroke, CPB Dhaka Committee General Secretary Sajedul Huq Rubel told The Daily Star.

His fellow comrades and people from all walks of life paid their last respect at CPB office and Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

Dhaka District Administration paid state honour to Musrhed at the Shaheed Minar.

Murshed Ali was laid to rest at Ishwardi in Pabna after a namaz-e-janaza. His first janaza was held at a mosque in the capital's Shewrapara.

He left behind his wife, two daughters, and host of relatives and well-wishers.

Murshed was also founder of Bangladesh Trade Union Centre and former president of Bangladesh Krishak Samity.

He was one of the organisers of 1969 Mass Upsurge, the 1971 Liberation War and the anti-autocracy movement in the 1990s.

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader expressed deep shock at the death.
