‘Ershad still leader of JP’

Jatiya Party (JP) leader GM Quader yesterday said he has been appointed the party’s acting chairman, as HM Ershad is having difficulties running the party’s daily activities due to ailments.

“Due to his [Ershad’s] sickness, the party’s regular activities have become stagnant of late. That is why he has appointed me acting chairman,” Quader said at a press briefing at Ershad’s Banani office.

“As long as Ershad is alive, the party will run under his leadership, and he is our leader,” he added.

At an emergency press conference at his Baridhara home on Saturday night, the former military dictator, who has been suffering from old-age health complications for last six months, appointed his brother GM Quader acting chairman of the party.
