Ershad not out of danger yet

Says GM Quader

Overall health condition of ailing Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has remained almost unchanged, JP acting Chairman GM Quader said yesterday.

He was addressing a press conference at the JP chairman’s office in Banani. He, however, said Ershad’s condition improved slightly compared to Monday.

“Dosage of his sleeping pills have been reduced, so he is responding to calls by opening his eyelids,” GM Quader said quoting doctors.

Ershad, 89, was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on June 26 and has been kept on oxygen support since June 30.

Quader said his brother is not out of danger yet.

The opposition leader in parliament was placed on life support on July 4 as his condition deteriorated. Ershad had been suffering from various health-related issues over the last couple of months.

The five-time MP flew to Singapore’s National University Hospital for medical treatment on January 20 and returned on February 4. Since then, he had been visiting CMH regularly for health check-ups.
