EMK Center marks 8th anniversary

The Edward M Kennedy Center, popularly known as the EMK Center, celebrated its 8th founding anniversary on Wednesday. To commemorate the occasion, a virtual session was held, where various luminaries spoke of the centre's journey so far.

Founded in 2012 through a partnership between the Liberation War Museum and the American Center of US Embassy, Dhaka, the centre is now run jointly by the American Center and University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh (ULAB).

In his remarks, Earl R Miller, US Ambassador to Bangladesh, said, "One's life is not just for oneself, but for one's community. Whether in Bangladesh or in the US, we can all do our part to give back to our community."

The session also featured Prof HM Jahirul Haque, VC of ULAB; Asif Uddin Ahmed, acting director of the EMK Center; George Tsiatis, CEO and Co-Founder of The Resolution Project; and Manik Mahmud, head of Social Innovation Cluster at Aspire to Innovate (a2i) as speakers, among others.

The ceremony also marked the closing of a two-month-long Youth Employment Campaign that hosted around fifty webinars and online sessions on youth employment issues.

During his concluding remarks, Professor Imran Rahman, special advisor to the Board of Trustees at ULAB, thanked all who supported EMK Center during its 8-year-long journey.
