Elderly man murdered in Tejgaon

A seventy-year-old man was murdered by unidentified miscreants at his flat in the city’s Tejgaon industrial area early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Tobarak Hossain, a businessman by profession.

As Tobarak was a follower of Chattogram-based Tarika-e-Maizbhandari, law enforcers are investigating whether militants are behind the murder, said Wahiduzzaman, additional deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Police are also focusing on whether he had personal and business enmity with others, he added.

Tobarak used to live in Shanti Niketon area with two others named Hassan and Saiful. Yesterday morning, one of them opened the door following a doorbell. Two masked men then entered the flat and stabbed Tobarak, the police officer said. Hassan has gone into hiding after the murder.

On information, police rushed there and took Tobarak to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

There are several injury marks on the body, police and morgue sources said.

The wardrobe of Tobarak’s room was found damaged. Police are suspecting that the killers made away with money and valuables from the flat.

Police picked up Saiful and some others for interrogation.
