EC not allowing army to work independently: BNP

BNP yesterday accused the Election Commission of not allowing army personnel to improve the law and order situation for tomorrow's general election.

“The Election Commission is not letting the army personnel work independently,” said party leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed from a press conference at its Nayapaltan office.

Citing instances of attack on BNP candidates, Rizvi alleged, “All the incidents are taking place under supervision of the prime minister and the chief election commissioner.”

Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of BNP, also slammed Sheikh Hasina for her comment that the opposition group may carry out subversive activities ahead of the polls.

It is well-known to all that AL is a “production house of elevated lies,” the BNP leader said.

AL activists with help of police yesterday carried out attacks on BNP candidates and activists and drove out their polling agents, workers and supporters from their own areas, he said.

Rizvi claimed that around 10,833 leaders and activists of the party have been detained since announcement of polls schedule on November 8. AL activists carried out around 2,896 attacks on BNP men, leaving nine people dead, he alleged.
