EC asks cop for probe report over Tabith Awal attack

Returning Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has asked the officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station to take legal action over the attack on BNP mayoral aspirant Tabith Awal in Gabtoli area this morning.

Returning Officer Abul Kashem sent a letter to the OC today seeking a probe report over the attack of Tabith Awal within 48 hours after the investigation.

The returning officer also sent another letter to Imran Shahriar, senior executive magistrate of Dhaka district, asking him to take necessary steps over the attack and submit a report to the returning officer within 48 hours.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission had asked the returning officer of DNCC to take measures over the attack.

The EC gave the directive to Kashem after a meeting of the constitutional body was held following the attack on Tabith, EC Secretary Mohammad Alamgir told reporters at the EC Secretariat.

After coming under attack, Tabith lodged a complaint.

Tabith came under attack by a group of people while he, along with his supporters and workers, was carrying out electioneering in Gabtoli area.
